('his side' refers to 'the heart of our Lord' which was pierced and impaled, describing 'the sufferings of his soul', which remind us of the extreme and incomprehensible degree or extent of his sufferings, even beyond the bodily sufferings, as described to us in Isaiah 53:2 where 'he hath poured out his soul unto death', and also Isaiah 53:10-11, where 'thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin' in v10, and 'He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied' in v11)

THE ISSUE FROM HIS HEART FOR OUR REDEMPTION AND SANCTIFICATION

('blood' in John 19:34 refers to our 'redemption', which we are reminded about in 1 Peter 1:18-19, 'with the precious blood of Christ'; 'water' in John 19:34 refers to our 'sanctification', alluded to in Ephesians 5:26: 'That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word')
